Derrick began his educational journey in 2008 at Iremele Primary School. Despite his strong academic performance, his family faced significant financial hardship, struggling to pay his school fees while also supporting his five siblings through their education. He persevered, completing class 8 in 2016 with an impressive 362 marks, which earned him admission to Viyalo Secondary, a day school.
Faced with his family’s low socioeconomic status, Derrick immediately began seeking well-wishers to fund his secondary education. Fortune smiled upon him when his mother, a caregiver enrolled in the OVC Ikolomani project funded by Stephen Lewis Foundation, had her household assessed by CABDA. Identified as a needy household, Derick was enrolled on the project as CABDA supported his school fees from Form 2 until he completed his studies in form 4.
In 2021, Derrick scored a C+ in his final exams, securing a placement at Kaimosi Friends University to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Science Mathematics with Information Technology. CABDA continued its support, fully funding his entire four-year university education. He graduated in November 2025 and was recognized as the best male student in the School of Science.
“I thank CABDA and everyone who celebrated and encouraged me on this journey,” Derrick expressed gratefully, crediting their support for his graduation on November 19, 2025, he is now a proud degree holder.
