This year’s theme, “Water and Gender,” highlights the strong connection between water access and gender equality. Empowering women in water resource management and decision-making is essential for building sustainable water systems and stronger, healthier communities.

As climate change continues to increase pressure on water resources, we must manage water as a shared common good while strengthening resilience for the future. Inclusive and sustainable water governance requires women’s equal representation at all levels of leadership helping shape the infrastructure and policies that determine how water is accessed, managed, and protected.

CABDA promotes gender equality in water access by engaging men and women in communities, boys & girls in schools while bringing water closer through rainwater harvesting tanks and household piped water connection. These efforts reduce the burden on women and girls going to fetch water, improve their well-being and support inclusive communities.

When women lead in water, communities thrive.
