The goal of the pillar is to empower women and their households economically, socially and politically.
Women and household empowerment approach promotes enjoyment of human rights for vulnerable and marginalised people, especially the poorest of the poor.The pillar is aligned to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1 which focuses on ending poverty in all its manifestations, SDG 5 reduction of gender inequalities and SDG 8 on sustainable economic growth. The focus is on the poorest women their children and then broadening the focus to the entire families and communities. This is done by building the capacities of poor communities using, Self Help Group (SHG) Approach, Savings and Internal Lending Communities (SILC) Methodology and provision of loans to individuals and groups as entry points.
The organization uses savings groups as a platform to bring on board an avalanche of interventions which including ; Financial Education/Literacy, Issuance of Micro-loans to individuals through caregiver groups, formation of producer groups and Linkages to formal financial institutions, social and other government safety nets programmes.
The bottom –up approach is adopted, which builds on peoples’ existing capabilities and strengths, an empowerment approach which priorities the building and strengthening of people’s institutions. This will be done by investing in social capital and human capabilities, especially those of women with their children, to enable them to participate in decision – making at the household, community, and macro level and to lift themselves out of poverty.
